The 1982 Welwyn Hatfield District Council election took place on 6 May 1982 to elect members of Welwyn Hatfield District Council in England.[1] This was on the same day as other local elections. A third of the council's seats were up for election. The newly formed SDP–Liberal Alliance saw a huge improvement in their share of their vote compared to their predecessor, scoring over 20% of the vote; the highest percentage for a third party since the forming of the Welwyn Hatfield's council. They were ultimately unsuccessful in gaining any seats however. Indeed, there was no net change in seats for any party; a first for the district.
