TraXX FM (ZHj Yayasan Wayarles Pulau Pinang) as the oldest Malaysian English-language radio station operated by Radio Televisyen Malaysia was first broadcast on 24 August 1934 as ZHj Yayasan Wayarles Pulau Pinang. It is broadcast 24 hours a day (starting on New Year's Day 1995), 7 days a week.

The station mostly plays easy listening and Oldies from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s officially similar and related to BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4 as targeting listeners between the age of 50 to now.

Etymology

The station was formerly known as TraXX FM and before that as ZHj Yayasan Wayarles Pulau Pinang.

History

The station started as ZHj Yayasan Wayarles Pulau Pinang operating of George Town, Penang on 24 August 1934.. With the independence of Malaya on 31 August 1957 Radio Malaya was split into two; the original studios in Singapore was taken over by a new station called Radio Singapura (currently known as Mediacorp Radio) and Radio Malaya moved to Kuala Lumpur going on air from the new location on 1 January 1959.

On 19 January 1971, Radio Malaya was known as The Blue Network.

On 6 September 1989, Blue Network was known as Radio 4.

On New Year's Day 1995 at midnight stroke, Radio 4 started broadcasting 24 hours a day.

TraXX FM adopts the easy listening and Oldies radio format with the majority of the playlist consisting of Easy listening and Oldies music from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

On daily features Golden Oldies music from the 1950s and 1960s.

National Anthem

At midnight stroke every day along with all RTM national and regional radio stations the national anthem was play as the opening.
