Acokanthera Apocynaceae familiako landare loredunak dira. Bost espezie daude barruan, Afrikan aurkitzen direnak, nahiz eta Acokanthera schimperi Yemenen ere aurki daitekeen. Bere zapan ouabaina izeneko glukosido kardiotoxikoa aurki daiteke. Elefantek ehizatzeko gezietan[1] erabiltzen den pozoia oso ohikoa genero honetatik ateratzen da[2].
