Joyful Jukebox Music julkaistiin sen jälkeen, kun The Jackson 5 jätti Motown Recordsin ja siirtyi Epic Recordsille vuonna 1976. Motown Recordsilla ollessaan yhtye työskenteli ahkerasti ja äänitti kymmeniä kappaleita per albumi. Albumin kappaleet on äänitetty marraskuu 1972 - helmikuu 1975 välisenä aikana, jolloin yhtye äänitti ja julkaisi albumit Skywriter, G.I.T.: Get It Together, Dancing Machine ja Moving Violation. Vuonna 2004 Hip-O Select julkaisi albumin yhdessä vuonna 1979 julkaistun Boogie -albumin kanssa ensimmäistä kertaa CD:lle.
