Peter Berg (lahir tanggal 11 Maret 1964) adalah sutradara, aktor, produser dan penulis naskah Amerika Serikat untuk film, televisi dan video musik. Ia dikenal sebagai sutradara film drama komedi pahlawan Hancock (2008), film perang militer fiksi ilmiah Battleship (2012), film perang Lone Survivor (2013), film drama bencana Deepwater Horizon (2016) dan film drama pengeboman Maraton Boston Patriots Day (2016), tiga film terakhir dibintangi oleh Mark Wahlberg sebagai aktor utama. Selain itu, ia berperan menonjol sebagai aktor dalam film Cop Land (1997), Corky Romano (2001), Collateral (2004), Smokin' Aces (2006) dan Lions for Lambs (2007).

Di televisi, Berg membuat serial drama Friday Night Lights (2006–2011), berdasarkan karya film-nya, mendapatkan dua nominasi Primetime Emmy Award. Sebagai aktor, ia dikenal dengan perannya sebagai Dr. Billy Kronk dalam serial televisi Chicago Hope (1995–1999) dari stasiun televisi CBS.^[2]

Pendidikan dan latar belakang

Berg lahir pada tahun 1964 di kota New York, New York, dan merupakan putra dari Sally (Winkler) dan Laurence "Larry" G. Berg,^[3] seorang Marinir Amerika Serikat.^[4] Ayah Berg adalah seorang Yahudi, seperti kakeknya.^[5] Dari ibunya, Berg adalah sepupu kedua dari penulis naskah H. G. Bissinger (Buzz Bissinger), yang mana bukunya Friday Night Lights menjadi adaptasi untuk film dan serial televisi Berg yang berjudul sama.^[6][7][8] Ibunya mendirikan kelompok pemuda yang bernama Catalog for Giving dan bekerja di sebuah rumah sakit jiwa ketika Berg remaja.^[9] Ia memiliki seorang adik perempuan bernama Mary. Berg merupakan alumni Chappaqua School System. Setelah lulus dari Taft School pada tahun 1980,^[10] Berg melanjutkan studinya di Macalester College di Saint Paul, Minnesota, di mana ia mengambil jurusan seni teater dan sejarah teater. Ia lulus pada tahun 1984, lalu ia pindah ke Los Angeles untuk mengejar karier film-nya pada tahun 1985. Pada tahun 1993, Berg menikah dengan Elizabeth Rogers, agen Calvin Klein. Mereka memiliki dua anak, lalu bercerai pada tahun 1998.^[11][12]
